“This album has 6 related improvised explorations of modern modal melodies stretched and compressed in various ways. The melodies are supported by a single string, The resonance of the instrument's body and resonator, and a variety of tonal colors via spectral bowing and plucking techniques. ”
“The pieces were made using the Mosesa 8, a two stringed mosesa, which uses 2 guitar strings, a cello bridge and a thin bowl resonator. The strings were bowed using an erhu bow which allowed me to vary the bow hair tension while bowing the strings.
I designed and built this model, the 8th one in a series of developments. The Mosesa 8 is a semi-acoustic instrument in that I record with a mixture of microphones, external guitar pedals and internal filters fed into Logic Pro 10.
Microphone: DPA 4099 into phantom into line level, into Strymon pedals: Sunset, blueSky, DECO. Logic Pro virtual effects reverb, overdrive, compressor, Bass Amp, Channel EQ and PtVerb and AdLimit on master track.
The album was recorded in my studio November 17 and 18, 2018. Album cover image and graphics, performances on self-designed mosesa instruments, recording and mastering by Wilhelm Matthies.”
