October Grounds 1-8
was recorded between November 10 and 14, 2017
in my home studio.

October Grounds is an exploration of making modern modal music using 2 semi-acoustic instruments that I designed and built. I range between pure, muted, chorded, overtoned and sometimes gliding shifting tones to express a sense passing between places and seasons.

I used my mosesa9-CedarPlate to record October Grounds 1,2, 5 and 6.
The mosesa9-CedarPlate is a bass version of the mosesa line of instruments that I am designing and building.
I used my mosesa8E to record October Grounds, 3,4, 7 and 8.
The mosesa8E uses guitar strings in contrast to the bass guitar strings used with the mosesa9-CedarPlate.

I used the DPA d:vote CORE 4099 Instrument Microphone fed into external pedals by Strymon, SUNSET (dual overdrive), blueSky (reverb), FLINT (reverb & Tremelo), DECO (double tracking and coloration). These pedals were further filtered in Logic Pro X.
I used an Earthworks M30 Condenser Measurement Microphone making a direct feed into Logic Pro X. There, I used virtual effects with both tracks for mixing and mastering.
